Octavia Butler

Bio

Octavia E. Butler (1947-2006) was the author of novels including Kindred, Wild Seed and Parable of the Sower, and winner of the Locus, Hugo and Nebula prizes, as well as a PEN Lifetime Achievement Award for her body of work. She was awarded a MacArthur Fellowship "genius grant" in 1995 - the first science fiction author to win it.
